Endorsed Candidates - Missouri House of Representatives

Let's talk about those things that are important to me and others living in northeast Missouri and I hope you will also be asking, "Why?"

Healthcare--In 2005, 180,000 people in Missouri (of which 1,417 people were living in the first district) were cut from Medicaid and denied access to healthcare.  Three years later most of these people are still waiting for their Medicaid cuts to be restored.  Why?

Funding for Rural Schools--Currently school districts receive $6117 per pupil.  Coupled with declining enrollment and declining assessed valuation, this creates a funding formula that is harmful to rural schools.  My opponent supported this funding formula.  Why?

School Vouchers--School vouchers divert money away from public schools.  On April 9, 2008 a vote was taken on an amendment to remove school vouchers from a bill.  You did not have a voice on this issue because your current state representative, Brian Munzlinger, was absent for this vote.  He was present for other votes that evening.  Why?

Rep. McClanahan, a Democrat, represents parts of Adair, Putnam and Sullivan Counties in the Missouri House of Representatives. She was elected to the House in November 2006.

In addition to her legislative duties, Rep. McClanahan is a Mental Health Nursing Consultant. She has spent over 30 years working as a Nurse Educator at Truman State University in Kirksville. Rep. McClanahan is the Immediate Past Vice-President of the Missouri Nurses Association, a member of the Church of the Nazarene and Treasurer of the Rho Omega Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

With deep family roots in Northeast Missouri, Rebecca McClanahan has been active as an educator, nurse, church member, and parent in the Kirksville community for over thirty years. These experiences have given her a personal understanding of the challenges facing Missouri families and their communities. Fully funding quality health care for every patient and a public education system worthy of Missouri’s children are among her highest priorities. Rebecca is also fervently committed to caring for veterans and senior citizens in our area. All of her goals are firmly grounded in a standard of accountability and financial responsibility.

Text Box: House District 2: Hon. Rebecca McClanahan
Text Box: House District 21: Kelly Schultz

I believe my career of constituent services and policy will be an asset to the families in the 21st District. Whether it is a question about healthcare, child support, or a grant application, I look forward to continuing to be an advocate for Missourians.  In Jefferson City I will fight for increasing access to healthcare, improving public education and creating jobs that will support Missouri families.

I am a University of Missouri graduate. I earned my undergrad in political science and my masters in public administration. Upon graduation, I took a bi-partisan job in the Missouri Senate and became a Houseparent at the Rainbow House, a crisis shelter for children in Columbia.  For the last nine years, I have worked in the Capitol in constituent services and policy. I served as Legislative Liaison for Senator Sidney Johnson, Director of Legislation for former Minority Leader Jeff Harris and I currently work for the Minority Caucus Secretary Sara Lampe.

My husband Loren Schultz teaches food animal medicine at the University Vet School. Loren and I are Boone County foster parents and we finalized the adoption of our foster daughter Brianna last June. We have had nine foster children and I am very proud to say that our 17 year old passed his GED and enrolled in college courses; and our 18 year old is the first in his family to graduate from high school.  My family and I live northeast of Columbia outside of Shaw. (Shaw is located up Route Z with the red barn that sells vegetables.) We attend Trinity Lutheran in Columbia where I play in the hand bell choir and Loren is on the Board of Elders.
