Endorsed Candidates - Missouri House of Representatives

I was born and raised in Missouri’s 71st district, which encompasses 22 independent municipalities in mid St. Louis County. The 71st District is a culturally and economically diverse area that is home to UM St. Louis, the third largest University in the state. More importantly, the 71st is home to wonderful neighborhoods, each with its own distinct character, charm, and proud history.

I’m an attorney by trade, and a lifelong public servant at heart. As State Representative, I will apply my skills as a lawyer and a community organizer to three primary focus areas, which impact the lives of every resident in the district. First, I plan to work ceaselessly to improve the overall quality of public education in the Normandy and Ritenour School Districts, by proposing creative solutions to improve both district administration, and student academic performance. Second, I hope to foster relationships with private industries, encouraging them to invest in our community, thereby moving the 71st into position to seize some of the exciting growth and development opportunities taking place all over the St. Louis metro area. Finally, I plan to assist in the statewide fight for affordable health care opportunities, with an eye toward ultimately creating a responsive trauma and urgent care facility in the 71st District.

Text Box: House District 73: Stacey Newman

Stacey has repeatedly taken action by fighting for true progressive policies. As a citizen lobbyist, she fought against the NRA, testifying and lobbying the Missouri state legislature against concealed weapons legislation for over three years. She volunteered her time and energy to protect children and families by advocating child access prevention policies in schools and homes. Stacey worked closely with Governor Bob Holden and the law enforcement community in attempts to defeat the legislation as the co-president of the Brady Campaign/Million Mom March – St. Louis.

Stacey has lobbied and testified for bi-partisan domestic violence firearm legislation several years in Jefferson City, working closely with Sen. Joan Bray, Rep. Robin Wright Jones and the law enforcement community.

Currently she serves as the executive director of the Missouri Women’s Coalition, a statewide political action committee which promotes the women’s vote for progressive candidates. The MOWC, formerly under the helm of the Missouri Democratic Party, publishes weekly newsletters on Missouri and nationwide women’s news, recruits progressive candidates and lobbies for the women’s reproductive choices, pay equity and the Equal Rights Amendment.  In addition, she is the spokesperson for “Blunt’s War on Women”, a coalition of over twenty labor, religious and women’s organizations – fighting Gov. Blunt’s attacks on birth control.

Text Box: House District 73: Steve Brown

I come from a family dedicated to public service.  As I raise my own children, I am becoming more and more concerned about the future of the St. Louis area and the state of Missouri.  You’ll also find that my whole career has prepared me very well to work for the people of this district - either by partnering with policymakers at the state and local level or fighting for progress when negotiation isn’t practical.

We’ve all watched Missouri fall behind its potential over the last four years.  When it comes to educating our future generations, providing health care for our people, and encouraging life science research to revitalize our economy, we can do better.  With your support, I plan on going to Jefferson City and enacting common sense policies that will help everyday people and make Missouri the leading state that it can and should be.

Text Box: House District 78: Margo McNeil

“I bring a combination of experience representing teachers, children and families. Whether it's fighting for equitable funding for our education system or ensuring our students have the resources necessary to learn, I am committed to improving the quality of life for Missourians. In the State Legislature, I will work to make positive improvements to our education system and to address educationally related areas like healthcare and job development. I will also continue the progressive leadership of Representative Clint Zweifel and fight for working families and women's rights.”

Margo successfully ran for the St. Louis Community College Board of Trustees in 2006. As a Trustee, Margo is responsible for approving the approximately $140 million budget and collaborating on the strategic plan for the college. During her time on the Board of Trustees, a new chancellor was hired and the college passed its national accreditation – a process that happens every ten years.

Margo has been involved in our community's civic activities for over 20 years. An active MNEA member, Margo served on the Legislative Committee and was the Government Relations (GR) Chair for the past
