Endorsed Candidates - Missouri House of Representatives

I am a Democrat running to represent constituents of the 44th District of the Missouri House of Representatives.  I am asking for your vote because I know that beyond politics are real people, with real issues, who deserve well thought-out solutions. As a Missouri native with strong Kansas City family ties, I am qualified and eager to serve you by representing your family’s interests and concerns in the Missouri House.

Politics is personal. It’s personal when seniors are forced into abject poverty and out of their communities to pad the corporate bottom line. It’s personal when some children start kindergarten behind their peers simply because of their families’ income. It’s personal when politicians try to tell people who they can or can’t love. And it’s personal when women continue to struggle with reproductive health care and pay equity. That's why I will be running a personal campaign.

My name is Jason Kander and I am a Democrat running for State Representative in Missouri's 44th District. My campaign goal is simple; to demonstrate that I have both the experience and the drive to represent you in fighting for affordable healthcare, quality education, and a cleaner environment.

I'm a fifth-generation Kansas Citian, an attorney, a soldier, a former UMKC political science instructor, and a passionate activist for progressive causes.

I'm running for State Representative because the politicians running our legislature have played political games with peoples' lives. As a veteran of the current war, I know what it's like to feel let down by politicians, and I want better for Missouri's families.

After the 2004 elections, Jason and his wife Diana founded Heartland Democrats of America, an organization that promotes progressive values in rural and suburban Missouri. In addition to the campaign, Jason practices law out of his office in Waldo. He is still in the Army Reserve and serves as an Instructor one weekend per month at Fort Leonard Wood, where he prepares new Army officers for leadership in combat.   The Kanders live in Waldo and attend New Reform Temple.

Text Box: House District 44: Mary Cosgrove Spence

My name is Mary Cosgrove Spence and I am running for State Representative of the 44th legislative district in Kansas City. I have lived and worked in the Brookside and Waldo area for the last twenty-two years and I am asking for your vote.

Over the years, my public policy work for the Missouri Association for the Education of Young Children, and my work as a teacher, have made me increasingly concerned that we are not doing enough to improve the lives of children and families in Missouri. We have to do better!

The answer is simple. Healthy children and healthy families make healthy communities! Healthy children are stronger students; stronger students have more opportunities for success. Successful adults stimulate a strong economy. Programs that are designed for remedial education, criminal justice and social welfare are very expensive to operate and manage effectively. Supporting our youth now, saves tax dollars in the future. The strength of our democracy depends on our children.

I believe that my career in education, and my life experience, will help me to represent the 44th district. I invite you to explore my web site to learn more about the issues I will fight for in Jefferson City. I welcome the opportunity to learn about your concerns and the issues you care about. I will be visiting our neighborhoods during the coming months, sharing my commitment to strengthening our community. I hope you will join me in this effort.

All Missourians deserve healthcare they can afford.  Medical/Drug costs are way too high.  We need to come together to "fix" the problem, so no one has to decide whether or not they can afford to see a doctor.  Missouri has more than 127,000 kids without health insurance.  This is disgraceful!  The current administration is taking us in the wrong direction.  Let's get back on the right path and solve this problem.
