I am a Democrat running to represent constituents of the 44th District of the Missouri House of Representatives. I am asking for your vote because I know that beyond politics are real people, with real issues, who deserve well thought-out solutions. As a Missouri native with strong Kansas City family ties, I am qualified and eager to serve you by representing your family’s interests and concerns in the Missouri House. Politics is personal. It’s personal when seniors are forced into abject poverty and out of their communities to pad the corporate bottom line. It’s personal when some children start kindergarten behind their peers simply because of their families’ income. It’s personal when politicians try to tell people who they can or can’t love. And it’s personal when women continue to struggle with reproductive health care and pay equity. That's why I will be running a personal campaign. Amy Coffman is a native Missourian whose family’s roots run deep in Kansas City history. Amy’s Great-great grandmother, Elizabeth Brothers Swope, was the niece of Thomas H. Swope, the Kansas City philanthropist who donated the land for Swope Park. Today, Amy and her husband, Jay Hardenbrook, both Democrats and proud residents of Waldo neighborhood, are members of Broadway United Methodist Church and the “Here’s Waldo” Home Owner’s Association. Amy and her sister Cortney are co-owners/directors of a small business franchise, “Stretch-n-Grow”, teaching health and fitness to preschoolers . To learn more visit Amy’s website. My name is Jason Kander and I am a Democrat running for State Representative in Missouri's 44th District. My campaign goal is simple; to demonstrate that I have both the experience and the drive to represent you in fighting for affordable healthcare, quality education, and a cleaner environment. I'm a fifth-generation Kansas Citian, an attorney, a soldier, a former UMKC political science instructor, and a passionate activist for progressive causes. After the 2004 elections, Jason and his wife Diana founded Heartland Democrats of America, an organization that promotes progressive values in rural and suburban Missouri. In addition to the campaign, Jason practices law out of his office in Waldo. He is still in the Army Reserve and serves as an Instructor one weekend per month at Fort Leonard Wood, where he prepares new Army officers for leadership in combat. All Missourians deserve healthcare they can afford. Medical/Drug costs are way too high. We need to come together to "fix" the problem, so no one has to decide whether or not they can afford to see a doctor. Missouri has more than 127,000 kids without health insurance. This is disgraceful! The current administration is taking us in the wrong direction. Let's get back on the right path and solve this problem. · Lifelong resident of Raytown, MO · Raytown High School Graduate · Longview Community College Associate of Arts · University of Missouri - Kansas City Bachelor of Political Science · University of Missouri - Kansas City Masters in History · University of Missouri - Kansas Ctiy Ph.D. candidate, Political and Social Science · Political Science & History Instructor - Metropolitan Community Colleges · Member/Past Member of National Political Science Honor Society, National History Honor Society, American Political Science Association, Organization of American Historians, Raytown Democratic Association, and Summit Democratic Club, National Rifle Association.
